Tara Harris

Tara Harris is a contemporary British painter known for her otherworldly landscapes rooted in intuition and layers of memory. Themes that emerge in her work explore the complex relationship between humans and nature, highlighting its profound power to heal and nurture. Born in Birmingham in 1969, she studied Fine Art at Bournville College of Art and later at Newcastle Polytechnic. Since 2024, Tara has exhibited in group shows, received international awards, and in 2025, held her first solo exhibition. Her work has been featured in several art publications.

Blending elements of European modernist surrealism with influences from traditional Korean art, Tara’s paintings are characterised by fluid mark-making and intimate compositions. Uncanny forms emerge and recede, inviting viewers to connect through imagination and emotion. My background in printmaking informs the intricate patterns and fine lines that run through my work. Influenced by the quiet harmony of Korean art and the Surrealist belief in intuitive mark-making, I allow imagery to surface organically. Each piece becomes a dialogue between control and spontaneity, with titles acting as the final piece of the puzzle.

Each piece becomes a dialogue between control and spontaneity

I create otherworldly landscapes that blur the line between reality and imagination. Through painting and drawing, I explore the deep connections between nature, memory, and emotion, building layered surfaces where forms emerge and dissolve to reveal hidden worlds that feel both familiar and surreal. Often working late into the evening, I lose myself in the act of creating, believing deeply in the therapeutic potential of art for both maker and viewer. Themes of healing, transformation, and our fragile relationship with nature flow throughout my practice.
