A solitary figure pauses in a doorway, held between the muted interior and an almost blinding field of light beyond. The scene feels at once domestic and uncanny, as though an ordinary threshold has briefly become charged with significance. Light cuts diagonally across the room, dissolving detail and softening the boundaries between figure, architecture and memory. There is a sense of hesitation here — of departure, return, or some quieter moment of recognition. Through subdued colour and loosely held forms, the painting evokes the fleeting instant when the familiar slips into something more elusive: half remembered, half imagined.
Ewan Story.
At the heart of his practice lies a belief that painting is a form of storytelling – not through literal narrative, but through the slow, sensory language of light, texture, and emotion.
