Leo

Leo is an artist who came to Lucile's studio so they could paint each other. He did not sit still, and Lucile let him move, and the painting is better for it: a man in a blue overshirt, drawing on a board on his lap, caught mid-thought rather than posed. The panel is wood, not canvas, and the surface shows it, with charcoal and oil pastel scratched into and over the paint so the picture has grain as well as colour. At 46 by 40 centimetres it is the largest and most expensive work in the collection, and it is the one that will change a room. The price is the artist's.
